- CHRISTCHURCH POTTERY FIRING SERVICES -

We offer bisque and glaze firing services for your pottery and ceramics in a new Cobcraft Octagon 5.  This is a very high quality and well insulated kiln which results in a consistent heat distribution. Because of its superior insulation it takes longer to cool down, which requires patience, but does help prevent cracking. 

To book a pottery firing service please email me at justine.jensen@yahoo.co.nz with the subject of BISQUE FIRING or GLAZE FIRING. Please include the following information:

• Name
• Email Address
• Contact Number
• Finish Date (date completed making pottery, only for Bisque)
• Clays Used
• Glazes Used
• Confirm a makers mark is on each ceramics piece, and that you have taken a photo of your pottery work, to help prevent items being lost.
• Please confirm clay can be fired to our kiln temperature, no porcelain, no paper clay, no unknown clay, no resin, no metal (except nichrome or kanthal), no soda or salt, no items thicker than 3cm, no glaze on the bottom of your pottery, no manganese wash used, any tape or stickers used during ceramics design have been removed, and there are no foreign items embedded in the clay.

I will contact you to arrange a meeting time for you to drop off your ceramics work. Please ensure each item of pottery has a makers mark and your box is well labelled with your name and contact number. After drop off I will calculate the firing price, and upon receipt of payment schedule a firing service. Turn-around time is 3 to 4 weeks. 

Pricing is based on the tallest or widest measurement of your piece. 

Ceramics Bisque Firing - Cone 06 (1000C)

• Up to 7cm is $3
• 8 to 10cm is $4
• 11 to 13cm is $5
• 14 to 16cm is $6
• 17 to 19cm is $9
• 20 to 22cm is $10
• 23 to 25cm is $11
• Larger pottery items = special quote

Ceramics Glaze Firing - Cone 6 (1200C)

• Up to 7cm is $5
• 8 to 10cm is $6
• 11 to 13cm is $7
• 14 to 16cm is $8
• 17 to 19cm is $12
• 20 to 22cm is $13
• 23 to 25cm is $14
• Larger pottery items = special quote

Full Kiln

• $140
• 142 Litres. Internal Dimensions 505mm wide and 650mm high. Need to allow 5cm between items and walls and top. Also bottom shelf uses 4cm of height. 

The full kiln can be hired for a firing service (bisque or glaze) for $140. I will load and unload the kiln for you, or with your assistance, and your pottery items still need to meet requirements. The firing programme can be adjusted to suit your needs, up to a cone 6 for glaze. We do not offer a cone 10 service. 

Terms and Conditions:

• We are not responsible for firing defects, pottery breakage, or glaze disappointment. The nature of pottery and community kiln firing does mean there is always a risk of breakage, cracking, warping, glaze faults and colour changes. We can not offer refunds or replacements of fired work. 
• You accept responsibility for any damage your pieces cause to kiln equipment. A damaged kiln cookie will incur a $5 replacement fee, a damaged shelf either a $40 repair fee or a much higher replacement fee. Damage to kiln walls or electrics due to inappropriate clay bloating or unidentified foreign objects or metals will be charged a repair fee.
• Firing times are estimates only. The kiln can take a long time to cool down and therefore swap over to its next firing schedule. 
• Items must be collected within 30 days of being notified. After 2 months uncollected items may need to be discarded due to finite storage space. 
• We reserve the right to refuse any work, and to delay the firing of work that is not yet fully dry. 
• Participation in booking a firing service constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
